Stephen King: Joyland Published by Titan Books A Hard Case Crime Novel Being fans of Stephen King's work for as long as we can remember, ie back in Secondary/High School when other students were reading Goosebumps stories and learning Shakespeare in English class, we found that this particular story took a different style of genre from King's usual penned literacy. Joyland, for what can only described as the duration of the entire novel, brings us a Fun role of reading and story telling (we sell fun here, Kiddo). Being Hard Crime Novel virgins, we were unsure of previous stories by other authors and therefore expected King's usual Horror feel to the tale, and while this never came, we were NOT disappointed by the outcome. Following the life of Devin, a 21 year old with a desire for the taste of carnival life, we start off with him and many other Greenies being shown the ins and outs of how a carny works. Hired to sell fun to Rubes, and wear the fur, Dev stumbles upon a mystery in the form of a supposedly haunted funhouse of horror (a ghost train) and soon discovers that what has happened in someone else's past, can and will come back to bite him in the ass. Along with psychic predictions, love life and gifted children, Joyland is an absolute joy to read and, despite its less than scary approach, was extremely difficult to lay down. We at BlogDangerous give this novel 7/10 Blogger Points and a note to say "well worth reading"!
