FARCRY3: - PS3, XBOX360, PC
Developers: Ubisoft Montreal
After the ambitious Map Modding, and Story Campaign of FARCRY2, FARCRY3 was one of my most eagerly anticipated games of 2012. It promised more features in Mapmaker, better quality graphics, gameplay, and sound, not to mention a hugely expected popular online gameplay demand, as well as a further story via online co-op play... It did NOT disappoint.
The hero of the Story mode, Jason Brody has to escape from an island paradise, after it has become overrun by pirates in the shape of the 'anti-hero' Vaas, and Hoyt who seems to lead the pirates. Vaas and Hoyt have taken prisoner Brody's family and friends, and throughout the campaign you eventually try to find and rescue them all, by learning new skills, collecting new weapons, and vehicles, as well as body and mind enhancing drugs, which you can craft for yourself in game. Top this off with hunting for bear skins, chasing panthers, fighting with crocs in the rivers and lakes on the island, and many more wildlife inhabitant dangers, this game just seems to want to keep you on your toes.
The only disappointments in the game, in my opinion, are that the Platinum trophy (PS3) is much too easy to achieve, when in comparison to its predecessor, was almost too difficult. The main reason for this is the lack of mapmaking trophies. There should be at least one of these surely, in order to actually get folk to make use of the amazing facilities on offer in mapmaker mode, such as waterfalls, game AI, and other glorious scenery and fine details.
My only other flaw finding, was the lack of "free for all" or "deathmatch" challenges in MP. These two features were what actually MADE FARCRY2 for me, so I was upset they left it out this time around.
However, this new adventure doesn't NEED to rely on those to make the game a success because it is an absolutely beautiful masterpiece of a game, and even after achieving Platinum, I still find myself coming back for more in story mode and in Co-Op, because its just damn good fun.
I urge anyone who has not yet played this game to rush out and buy it now, or download where possible, because you WILL NOT be disappointed.
