"The Blessing Of Brokenness" is a short story by Karin Slaughter, which tells the tale of a woman, Mary Lou, who through helping out at her local church for years, and having a kid who has grown up to be a bit of a tear away, and having had a husband who has cheated on her and since left her, is now going through an even tougher time herself, when she discovers that, as a result of an affair of her own with the church minister (after her divorce) is now pregnant.

Mary Lou has a real struggle trying to come to grips with her pregnancy, and being in her third trimester, also has it made more difficult trying to get an abortion, which, is illegal at this stage in the pregnancy, in most, if not all of America's States.

It basically is a tragic tale of a woman's fight for peace of mind, her struggle with the relationships she has with her family, her co-workers, and with God, and her inability to come to grips with her cardinal sins, mainly with the church man.

She fears the other townsfolk, some of which have become her friends through church, will turn against her when they find out what has been going on with the minister.

The story, although short in length, is quite a gripping tale, and leaves us with a sense of wonderment at the possibilities of a superbeing, or superpower, that is God, and the question of wether God controls, or punishes us for our wrong doings.

I would recommend this book, and actually think that it would be something that you could easily read on your commute to work.
