Artist: C2C

Track: Arcades

Album: Arcades - Single

These guys really are the act that wants to be Daft Punk's rivals. The French quartet of DJ's, C2C combine breakbeat and turntablism to create a high tempo blend of hip hop and funky electronica which seems to be perfect for the festivals around the UK, which, incidentally is how they managed to gain status here, along with thousands of YouTube views, after being in the circuit in France for years.

This sampling of their work I found, is suitably grouped into that electronic funk category that so often is associated with Daft Punk, and Justice, and now the high aiming, wannabe Kings of the genre, C2C.

It has a very melodic sound to it for a turntable track, and features similar sounds to that of the robot duo, above, in that there is a deep bass underlining a kind of medieval time melody, what voice sampling and drumloops, all happening at the same time, followed by flowing warped keyboards and a general DJing mixup.

It needs to be said that I was instantly taken in by the whole sound, as a complete track, mainly because I am a massive fan of Daft Punk and their recent lack of material has lead me to look for alternative sounds. ( see also The Young Punx ).

However, in terms of sheer, grabbing you by the short and curlies and making you take proper notice, there is something that lacks. I'm not sure what that is exactly, but there is something?

I do admire the sound, and quality of how it is mixed together, though, and look forward to hearing more from these guys, perhaps even purchasing their debut album, from 2012 "Tetra" which took the top spot in France, in the near future?
