This animated film is very much one for the children of the 1980’s era of growing up. With so many references to a multitude of Video Games, including PacMan, Sonic The Hedgehog, Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros, and many, many more, it comes across as a gallery of retro gaming heaven with plenty of new twists and turns and stories thrown in.

The main character, Wreck-It Ralph, is actually a villain in his own game, Fix-It Felix, and in itself is a cross breed reference to Rampage, and Donkey Kong, where the hero, Felix, has to get to the top of a sky scraper by way of repairing it, after Wreck-It Ralph has smashed it up, and in doing so, Felix collects a medal as his reward.

In a Toy Story style way, the characters from all the games come to life when there are no people around to see them, or if you like, each night when the arcade closes. The way that Disney have portrayed the nightlife activities of the game avatars is beautiful, sweet, and genius.

The “Bad-Anon Meetings” are brilliant, with the villains from different generations of games all coming together in the Ghost’s Box of the PacMan game to talk about how being a villain affects their lives. The use of the cables at the back of the arcade as trains for the characters, and the socket adapters as Game Central is just a great touch.

The basic plot sees Ralph grow tired of being a villain and aspiring to win a medal, like Felix does, which would allow him to live in the penthouse suite with his fellow, Fix-It Felix characters instead of being left to live outside in the dump. Ralph then decides to go to other games to win himself a medal and in doing so meets other characters and other dangers.

In short, this movie is a MUST SEE. Kids and adults will all love and relate to the characters, and the story just flows beautifully.

As good as ToyStory, better than Small Soldiers, and a new Disney Classic, meant to be watched over, and over, and over again...Go See It NOW!
